1960703 - The "updatease" utility fails with the error : "Adaptive Server failed to start" - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • When using the "updatease" utility to apply a support package patch (SP) to a major release of ASE, the upgrade phase of the install fails with the following error:
    Start Adaptive Server ...
    Adaptive Server failed to start.
    Updating Adaptive Server failed.
  • In the %SYBASE_ASE%\init\logs\updatease<mmdd>.*** file:
    Can not delete '/tmp/sb******'.
