Symptom
You are trying to post an Inventory Adjustment using a negative quantity, however the following error is occurring: Quantity of product XYZ not valid (Where XYZ is the ID of the product).
Your intention is to create a negative stock.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Physical Inventory
- Click on the common task New Inventory Adjustment
- Enter the Location ABC
- Enter the Key Date and choose Next button.
- Choose Add Row
- Enter a logistics Area and the product XYZ
- Enter a negative value for the field Actual Value and system shows the error message.
Cause
System is working as designed. It's not possible to create negative stock using Inventory Adjustment.
Resolution
You can use Scrapping to create negative stock. However, scrapping can only be performend in a Logistics Area that has a positive stock.
If the inventory quantity of the product is Zero, an Inventory Adjustment needs to be done first.
- Go to Physical Inventory Work Center
- Select the common task New Inventory Adjustment
- Enter the Location ABC
- Enter the Key Date and choose the Next button.
- Choose Add Row
- Enter a Logistics Area
- Enter the Product XYZ
- Enter 1 as Actual Value
- Choose on Next and then Finish.
Now that there is a positive inventory of the product, so the Scrapping can be performed:
- Go to Internal Logistics Work Center
- Choose the common task Scrapping
- Enter the Site ID ABC
- For the field Actual Execution On, enter the same date used as Key Date in the Inventory Adjustment
- Choose Next
- Select the Product XYZ and enter the Product Scrapped Quantity, this quantity must be the negative stock you want to enter plus 1. (i. e. If you want to enter a negative stock of -100, you need to enter 101 as scrapped quantity).
- Choose Next
- Choose Finish
- Now you will have a negative stock in the selected location
Note: If the location does not allow negative stock, the system will return an error message during the Scrapping process as well.
