1961388 - Signal 11 stack trace containing xact_beginupdate followed by error 4720 and error 4701 - ASE

Symptom

  • The ASE errorlog reports a stack trace following a signal 11 (Unix) or SQL Server system exception message (Windows) with the stack containing modules:
xact_beginupdate()
trunctaberr()
trunctab__phys()
trunctab()
droperr()
dropo()
drop_with_retry()
tmp_alldrop()
  • Error 4720 and 4701 reported:

Error: 4720, Severity: 16, State: 1
Cannot truncate table '%' because there are one or more isolation level 0 scans, or REORG command, active on the table.

Error: 4701, Severity: 11, State: 1
Cannot truncate table '%', because this table does not exist in database 'tempdb'.

  • As a result, a phantom spid with an open transaction may be left behind preventing the transaction log from truncating and resulting in error 1105
