Symptom

  • On SAP Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) whose kernel mode is configured to 'process', processes may hang waiting for disk IO completion.
  • Killing the hanging process may raise below error in ASE's errorlog:
     
          server  Killing spid: xxx will not be immediate because it is waiting for a latch held by spid: yyy.
