1971440 - Error "Conversion between A and B not valid; conversion to B already exists" when saving quantity conversions

Symptom

  • Error message appears: Conversion between A and B not valid; conversion to B already exists.
  • Occurs when saving a quantity conversion for a product.
  • Happens while editing a material in Product Data work center, Materials view, General tab.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Product Data work center
  2. Go to Materials view
  3. Edit a material
  4. In General tab, try to maintain quantity conversion
  5. The error message appears: Conversion between A and B not valid; conversion to B already exists

Cause

The system prevents cyclic quantity conversions; if conversions exist between A–B and A–C, a direct B–C conversion is unnecessary and blocked.

Resolution

  1. Review existing quantity conversions for the material.
  2. Identify the redundant conversion that creates a cycle (for example, B–C when A–B and A–C already exist).
  3. Remove the unnecessary conversion.
  4. Save the material.
