1974030 - How to configure DB13 to work with a standalone Oracle database on Unix/Linux

Symptom

This document is meant to create an easier step-by-step model to configure the use of DB13 in a scenario where the database server doesn't have an SAP instance running on it, the so-called standalone Oracle database. For troubleshooting, SAP Note 446172 can be used. It can be a single instance or even RAC installation of the Oracle database. The difference is only in the hostname which is fixed in single instance and virtual hostname for RAC.

The better option for Unix and/or Linux is to use directly remote shell (rsh) or secure remote shell (ssh) to start the BR*Tools in the database server. To use Gateway will make the configuration much more complex. That option should be considered for Windows environment where the use of remote shell is not possible.
