1975066 - Report Invoice Volume Does Not Match With Financial Statements Report due to Open Sales Accruals

Symptom

You expect that the Invoice Net Volume as shown in the Invoice Volume matches with the Sales Revenue as displayed in the Income Statement for a certain period. However, you notice that these values differ.

Reproducing the Issue

To open the Invoice Volume report:

  1. Navigate to the  Customer Invoicing work center and there to the Reports > List view and open the Invoice Volume report.
  2. In the Edit Selection tab fill in all the mandatory fields.
  3. Now also maintain the period span for which you want to check the invoice volume in the Time Frame field.
  4. Press Go to start the report.
  5. Make a note of the displayed result.

To open the Financial Statements report

  1. Navigate to the General Ledger work center and there to the Reports > List view and open the Financial Statements report.
  2. In the Edit Selection tab fill in all the mandatory fields.
  3. In the Fiscal Year and Accounting Period field maintain dates corresponding to the time frame you maintained in the Invoice Volume report.
  4. Press Go to start the report.
  5. In the report navigate to the Result form Ordinary Operations item and from there to the Sales Revenue item.
  6. Make a note of the value displayed here in the Amount Company Currency column.

By comparing both results you notice that they don't match.

Cause

In case sales revenues are deferred the Invoiced Net Value and Sales Revenue do not have to match. The delta also depends on the applied accrual methods and the execution of the Revenue Recognition for the respective time frame. It is possible that the Revenue Recognition Run does not realize sales revenues for various reasons.

Resolution

In case you assume that sales documents should have been included in a Revenue Recognition Run you can confirm this by following the steps.

  1. Go to Cost and Revenue work center and the Periodic Tasks view.
  2. Select the Revenue Recognition sub-view.
  3. Search for the Run ID related to the period where values are not matching in the reports.
  4. Click on View button.
  5. Navigate to the Messages tab.

Here you might find an indication why certain documents have not been included.

E.g. Costs without assignment to a sales order exists for project XXX.
