1979488 - Mass E-mail Activation When Server Is Hosted by a Third-Party

Symptom

Is Mass E-mail Activation possible when Server is hosted by a third-party?

Resolution

If you are using email campaigns in Cloud For Customer, the emails are sent technically by SAP's infrastructure. Semantically the emails are sent from the customer with customer's FROM address etc.

These emails are sent with a DKIM signature.

Because the emails contain in the FROM address the domain of the customer, you must add the public DKIM key (written in the documentation of the Fine Tuning activity for "Mass E-Mailing") in your DNS.

REASON for this is the following:

If the receiving mail server gets a DKIM signed email, the server determines the FROM domain (= customer's domain), calls the DNS in order to get the DKIM key for this FROM domain, creates an own signature of the received mail with usage of the public DKIM key.

If both signatures are identical, the receiving mail server knows that the mail was really sent by the FROM address.

You have to add the DKIM key (as written in the documentation of the Fine Tuning activity for "Mass E-Mailing") to your DNS.

If the DNS is hosted by a service provider the service provider has to add this DKIM key for your domain.

IMPORTANT:

For marketing mailings SAP strongly recommends to use a sub-domain and NOT the official customer domain.

E.g. instead of using optimalsol.com the customer should created a sub-domain like news.optimalsol.com or info.optimalsol.com.

Only for this sub-domain the DKM key will be added to the DNS.
