1991717 - Crash when SQL has many columns in its GROUP BY clause - SAP ASE

Symptom

SQL statement with many columns in its GROUP BY clause on may run into one of below issues:

  • ASE shutdowns silently without errors or stack traces.
  • ASE shutdowns or terminates process executing the SQL with Signal 11 in the module s_ap_compat_gen() followed by a stack trace:

 Kernel  Current process (0xf1000d) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
 Kernel  Address 0x0x00000000011aba24 (s_ap_compat_gen+0x87), siginfo (code, address) = (128, 0x(nil))
 ...

  Generally, s_ap_compat_gen() or close_range() may appear in the stack trace.
