1999333 - Encrypted database recovery errors 15497, 975, 3419 when starting the dataserver - ASE 16.0

Symptom

During startup ASE will log these errors: 15497, 975 and 3419 indicating that it cannot recover because the master encryption key password is not set/available.

server Error: 15497, Severity: 16, State: 1
server The password for the master key of database 'master' has not been set.
Error: 975, Severity: 17, State: 1
server The database 'pubs2' is encrypted.
server Error: 3419, Severity: 17, State: 1
server Unable to proceed with the recovery of dbid <4> because of previous errors.
