SAP Knowledge Base Article - Preview

2004283 - Installing SMP 3.0 on SUSE 11 returns the error: Host name cannot be retrieved.

Symptom

  1. Attempt to run the SMP 3 installer on Linux (i.e. ./SilentInstall_Linux.sh)
  2. Note the error returned:
    Host name cannot be retrieved.  Host name must be set to install SAP Mobile Platform 3.0.  You need to either set it locally or plug into a network to get a dynamically generated host name.
  3. you may note in the terminal window a Java exception:
    java.net.UnknownHostException: <hostname>: <hostname>: Name or service not known
  4. use of the 'hostname' command shows the hostname is set
