2006684 - Errors 1204 "ASE has run out of locks" and 3914 "Illegal internal transaction status" - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE errorlog reports error 1204
  • Some instances of error 1204 will not identify a user:

Error: 1204, Severity: 17, State: 2
ASE has run out of LOCKS. Re-run your command when there are fewer active users, or contact a user with System Administrator (SA) role to reconfigure ASE with more LOCKS.
Error: 1204, Severity: 17, State: 2 occurred for User ''. Client IP address is 'Unknown'.
SQL Text: [no text]

  • Following above error, ASE errorlog may begin reporting error 3914 every minute:

Error: 3914, Severity: 26, State: 1
Illegal internal transaction status. This is an internal system error.
Error: 3914, Severity: 26, State: 1
Illegal internal transaction status. This is an internal system error.

  • ASE may hang
