2008364 - Msg 4221: "DUMP TRANsaction to dump file is not allowed" - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Dumping a transaction log to a backup file returns error 4221:

    dump tran <db_name> to '/path/dumptran.dmp'

    Msg 4221, Level 16, State 1:
    DUMP TRANsaction to a dump device is not allowed where a truncate-only transaction dump has been performed after the last DUMP DATABASE.
    Use DUMP DATABASE instead.

  • The tran_dumpable_status for a database reports value that does not allow tran dump to file to be executed
