2013404 - Error 6908 "During redo the page timestamp value is less than..." during database recovery - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Error 6908 is reported in the ASE errorlog when the database recovers:

Msg 6908, Level 21, State 3: Server 'XXX', Line 1: During redo the page timestamp value is less than old timestamp from log.
Page #=55705600, object id = 99, page timestamp=0000 00000000. Log old timestamp=0000 00000001.

  • The "page timestamp" value in the error message is 0x0000 00000000
  • The "object id" value in the error message is 99 (which is the object id for an allocation page)

  • SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) 15.7 and 16.0
  • ALTER DATABASE .. WITH ASYNC_INIT has been run on this database more recently than the previous reboot
