2013809 - Error 169 "...Expressions in the ORDER BY list must be unique" is raised unexpectedly for OUTER JOIN query involving remote table(s) - SAP ASE

• Error 169 is raised for no apparent reason:

Expression `%d' and `%d' in the ORDER BY list are same. Expressions in the ORDER BY list must be unique.

• Query is performing an outer join involving a remote (proxy) table.
• Query either does not have duplicates in its ORDER BY clause or has no ORDER BY clause at all.
