Symptom

  • Slow performance or increased response time in SAP ASE.
  • ASE error log contains an error about a memory pool of a named cache being configured too small for current demands with state 4.
  • Example error text: The 64K memory pool of named cache default data cache (cache id 0, cachelet id 3) is configured too small for current demands (state 4). Transaction progress may cease or response time may increase.
  • Not limited to default data cache or 64K pools; it can occur on any cache and pool size (2K, 4K, 16K, 32K, 64K, 128K).
