2026039 - Error: "COM exception caught in CExToolBar", when attempting to logon to SAP BW from Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • When attempting to logon to SAP BW from Crystal Reports, it fails with the error:
        
          "COM exception caught in CExToolBar::GenerateNewTemplate(). HR = 0x800004005" 
          "COM exception caught in CExToolBar::InitOpenSaveDialog(). HR = 0x800004005" 
          "COM exception caught in CExToolBar::InitializeGlobalData(). HR = 0x800004005" 
      
  • It is possible to successfully connect to other SAP BW Systems from Crystal Reports, but fails when attempting to connect to an SAP BW Message Server.
  • Before applying an SAP GUI for Windows updates, it was possible to logon  to any of the SAP BW Servers.
