2029002 - Long running TREXviaDBSL queries cause high CPU usage / system hang

Symptom

During the execution of BW queries that use the TREX API, CPU utilization on the HANA database host reaches a peak and eventually the system even stops responding or respectively runs into timeouts. The CPU load graph in HANA Studio looks like as displayed below during the runtime of those queries:

When an rte dump (KBA 1813020) is created, the call stacks of the threads in question contain the following functions:

AttributeEngine::QueryValues::getNextValue()
AttributeEngine::BtreeAttribute::tree_iterator<TrexTypes::StringAttributeValue>::SearchInlistBetweenJob::run()
TRexUtils::Parallel::JobBase::run(Execution::JobObject&)
Execution::JobObjectImpl::run(Execution::JobWorker*)
Execution::JobWorker::runJob(ltt::smartptr_handle<Execution::JobObjectForHandle>&)

Creating and evaluating a HANA profiler trace (SAP note 1804811) would show the following graph depicting functions consuming most of the CPUtime:
