Symptom
- When executing a large query against a very large table, the number of locks acquired by the transaction may sometimes be excessive.
- Such queries, or other unrelated queries needing to acquire a lock, may fail with ASE error 1204:
ASE has run out of LOCKS. Re-run your command when there are fewer active
users, or contact a user with System Administrator (SA) role to reconfigure
ASE with more LOCKS.
- It is possible to limit the number of rows a given query returns using the ASE "resource limits" feature. How can this feature be used to limit the number of locks acquired for a given transaction?
