2043952 - XML Deserialization Error. XML is not valid

Deploying a web application, or editing its properties in the system through NetWeaver Administrator (/nwa), might fail with the following errors. Below is for example application com.sap.ip.bi.web.portal.integration but can be any other application:

Web Deployment error occurred when saving application properties.

com.sap.engine.services.servlets_jsp.server.exceptions.WebDeploymentException: Cannot store the modified web deployment descriptors of the web application [sap.com/com.sap.ip.bi.web.portal.integration]. Probably the changes will be lost.
