Symptom

  • User session terminates unexpectedly
  • When running update statistics or update index statistics
  • ASE errorlog reports signal 11 at address lmpage, sortcmp or compare_value
    • with log entries looking like (offsets will vary by platform) :

Current process (hex#) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)

Address hex# (sortcmp+0x264) or
Address hex# (lmpage+0x178) or
Address hex# (compare_value+0xf4)
Address hex# (lmsort+0x234)

  • Followed by a stacktrace containing some or all of the following functions :

startsort
sort
ups_build_stat_noindex
update_statistics_col
update_statistics
ups__updstats
sortcmp
lmsort
lmpage
