2071040 - Custom Login page for SSP fails after upgrade to SAP Afaria 7 SP5 with error message "Error accessing Self Service Portal. API services are not available"

Symptom

A Custom Login page for SSP, which is only used for AD/LDAP authentiction at the initial login and then redirecting to the SAP Afaria SSP, is failing after the upgrade to SAP Afaria 7 SP5 with error message "Error accessing Self Service Portal. API services are not available". The SAP Afaria SSP however can be accessed without issues.
