Environment
SAP SucessFactors Goal Management
Reproducing the Issue
- Log into the SAP SuccessFactors instance;
- In the Home dropdown menu select the Goals/Objective Management module;
- You don't see the respective user's goal plan but the permission error message below:
Cause
- The access to a Goal Plan is not only granted by the Goal Plans selected in Role Based Permissions, it also takes into consideration the Target Population selected for the permission role of the user.
- Often, when roles are created for managers, the role frequently includes only their direct reports as a target population, and as such exclude them the access to their own Goal Plan.
- If a Goal Plan access is granted to only the Target Population of the direct reports, the Manager would only be able to see the plan if they are looking the plan of their direct reports.
- When trying to access the goal plan for self, the permission error mentioned occurs.
- A common scenario is that a permission role for Managers or HR Managers is configured with the option “Exclude Granted User from Having the Permission from accessing Himself or Herself” enabled, as the example below:
Resolution
To avoid this issue, take into consideration the access you would like to provide for the permission role that is receiving these error messages. There are 3 possible scenarios for that permission error message:
Scenario 1
- It is possible to remove the option "Exclude Granted User from Having the Permission from accessing Himself or Herself".
- This will grant the access not only to the Goal Plan of the user, but for all permissions granted for this permission role. This will create a new permission role for this group of users, granting access only to the Goal Plan, and including access to the user in.
Scenario 2
Another possible scenario is that the user does not have the RBP permission for the Goal Plan. To check this settings you can follow the steps below:
- In Admin Center > Manage Users > Manage Permission Role > Open the respective role group;
- There you can add the goal plan to the user's permission role under "Goal Plan Permissions";
- Select the Goal Plan > Save
Scenario 3
Other possible scenario is the Employee's Manager's exclusive access to the Goal Plan template. To check this settings you can follow the steps below:
- In Admin Center > Manage Users > Manage Permission Role > Open the respective role group;
- Scroll down until see the 'Grant this role to...' option and click 'Edit Granting'
- There you can check if "Include access to Granted User (Self) is enabled or not.
