2072874 - Isolation level 0 scans fails with error 7794 after killing a REORG DEFRAG process - SAP ASE for BS

Symptom

  • You are running applications on the SAP ASE database. 
  • You run a REORG DEFRAG on a user table and kill it because it takes too long to complete.
  • Following this, isolation level 0 scans (dirty reads/SELECTs) against this table continue to fail with error 7794: 

Msg 7794, Level 16, State 1: Server '<SID>', Line 1: You cannot scan table 'XXXX' at isolation level 0 because another process is running a utility command that is incompatible with level 0 scans. Please retry later.

  • Per sp_who and sysprocesses outputs, there is no "reorg" or similar utility running on the table.
