2077257 - How vs What matrix grid configuration - Manage Templates - Performance Management

Symptom

This article describes how to adjust the How vs. What rating scales, for the 9-box that shows in your PM form Obj/Comp section.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Performance Management

Resolution

You can adjust it under Admin Tools > Succession > Matrix Grid Rating Scales.

First, determine which scales you're using for How vs. What by following these steps:

  1. Go to Admin Tools;
  2. Click Succession;
  3. Select Matrix Grid Report: How vs. What;
  4. Take note of the dropdown value selected for each item under "Trend". Those are your how vs what rating scales.

Next, edit the scale:

  1. Go to Admin Tools;
  2. Select Succession;
  3. Choose Matrix Grid Rating Scales;
  4. Under "Select the Rating Scale you want to edit: " choose one of the trends we saw earlier;
  5. Click Edit;
  6. Click the dropdown for Desired scale size and choose the exact value you want for this scale;
  7. Click Set;
  8. Add the appropriate label texts for the new scale items;
  9. Click Save Changes (you may need to scroll to the bottom);
  10. Repeat instructions for the next scale.
  • We recommend that you set the rating scale for Competency and Objective to the same scale as on the form (i.e. if the form is using a 5 point scale, then you should use a 5 point scale in the Matrix Grid Rating Scales.)
  • You can use different scales, however, this will cause the reporting to show a "normalized" score. In Form Lists, for example, the Goal Rating and Competency Rating will show the score based on the rating scale set in Matrix Grid Ratings Scales. The Normalized scores will show the ratings based on the PM forms (i.e. the scores you see in the obj/comp summary).
  • If the How vs. What is not set to use Competency and Objective (i.e. it is using Performance and Potential), then no scores will be shown in reporting. It does not matter if you change this setting in Admin Tools after the forms are created. The change is NOT dynamic. The correct scales need to be set in place before the forms are created, and this setting stays with the form.

NOTES:

  • Please be sure to thoroughly test reporting when setting up an obj comp summary section.
  • Matrix grid settings in Succession such as Custom Weights will not take effect in Obj-Comp section. So all cells/placements are weighted equal.
