2078789 - How Depreciation Calculation for a Period of an Asset is Determined

You have created an asset with the transfer of another asset, but you observe that the depreciation overview shows depreciation is not getting calculated from same period in which the asset is capitalized.

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to the Fixed Assets work center.
2. Go to the Fixed Assets view.
3. Find and select the fixed asset ABC (ABC means the fixed asset ID).
4. Click Edit button and choose Values.
5. Select the Depreciation Overview subtab.

You will see that planned depreciation is not started from same periods in which you created this asset. For example, if this asset is created in period 08 the calculation started from period 09.

Lets take an example for the root cause here.

You did a transfer of asset from PQR to ABC on posting date 26.09.2014. But the depreciation calculations in newly created asset ABC are showing yellow from period 10, 11, 12, and so on.

System Logic:

For depreciation calculation system will first take the depreciation method, here it is L010 and finds its period control which is 003 for this method. Now system checks the used transaction, in this case it is transfer. The period control key determined in this case is 02, so with the above combination of depreciation method, period control, transaction and period control key, the system will start calculating depreciation from  Pro rata up to mid period at period start.

Depreciation calculation is determined in this case as per its depreciation method and its corresponding period control key method and its period control key only, if you want the depreciation calculation for the same period in which the asset is created with the transfer, use a depreciation method that supports your requirement.
