Resolution

Translations for Foundation Objects can be managed individually through the application or via import. Foundation Object are key elements of your data structure. Most foundation objects are effective dated and careful consideration should be made if you are “Making a Correction” or “Inserting a New Record”. Any changes should be tested in your test instance prior to performing any large scale updates.

  • Managing translations individually – Generally recommended for individual maintenance of on going changes
  1. Navigate to Admin Tools > Manage Organization, Pay and Job Structures
  2. Open a Foundation Object such as “Location”
  3. Select “Take Action > Make Correction” or
  4. Select the Globe icon next to Location Name or Description
  5. A pop-up window will appear that will list all the language packs enabled, enter your translations as appropriate for each language.
  6. Select “Done”, then “Save”
  • Managing translations through Generic Objects Import – Generally recommended for creating or updating large numbers of translations

Export Data

    1. Go to: Import and Export Data
    2. Select the action to perform: Export Data
    3. Select Generic Object: FoTranslation
    4. Export
    5. Retrieve the file by Admin Center > Monitor Job

This will produce a populated template with all foundation objects and their translations, make the needed additions to your translation values.

Keep a clean copy of this file in the event you inadvertently overwrite your translations. 

Import Data

    1. Go to: Import and Export Data
    2. Select the action to perform: Import Data
    3. Select Generic Object: FoTranslation
    4. Select the CSV file
    5. Purge Type: Incremental Load
    6. Import

Validate your imported data

There are multiple options to validate your translations:

  • Export a populated template – verify that translations are present
  • Navigate to Admin Tools > Manage Organization, Pay and Job Structures- Open a Foundation Object – Select the globe icon – verify translations
  • Change a user’s language and validate in the application, where appropriate (ex. Employment Information)
