2080253 - ASE May Hang with Errorlog Message: "kernel Warning: Alarm Service for Timer non-operational." - SAP ASE

Symptom

The following may occur:

  • The ASE error log contains several (or many) repetitions of the following message:

                                  kernel Warning: Alarm Service for Timer non-operational. If this message generated multiple times, report to support and restart the server (alarminterval=-817153). 

  • ASE hangs when the error log fills with these messages. 
  • ASE performance is degraded on one or more engines. 
  • ASE hangs under a heavy load.
