• If you have the SuccessFactors Recruiting module implemented, you can optionally allow succession planners to name external candidates (from the recruiting candidate database) as successors. Just go to Admin tools > Succession > Nominations Setup and check "Allow succession planners with recruiting candidate search permissions to nominate external candidates".
  
   
• If you don't have the Recruiting module, the workaround is to create a "dummy" user record and name that user as a successor. For example you could create one record named "External Hire" and enter the actual name of the candidate in the notes field in the succession nomination record.
