2084186 - Budget - Allocation total exceeds budget. Please Adjust recommendations - Compensation


  • How to remove/add Hard Limit for budget using admin tools.
  • When you try to send the form to next step or save you get a popup message that the “Allocation total exceeds budget. Please Adjust recommendations and the form doesn’t go the next step.

  • This is happening because the budget has been configured to a hard stop if it goes over budget. You can change this behavior for NEW worksheets only by adjusting your program settings. This cannot be changed for live worksheets.


Edit Budget Rules

If you wish to add soft warnings or hard limits for Merit/lumpsum/bonus etc fields then follow these steps:

  1. Go to Admin tools
  2. Then Compensation Home
  3. Open the correct template
  4. Click On Plan Setup
  5. Then Plan Details
  6. Click on Budget -> Budget Rule -> Actions -> Take Action -> edit Go to



  • Here you’ll be able to Change the Hard Limit setting from Disallow to warn or allow. 


If you select …

The following happens …


The planner can exceed the budget without any error/warning message.


The planner can exceed the budget, but will receive a warning message. This is the most common setting).


An error message will be displayed if the planner exceeds the budget.

Note that if you select this setting, the worksheet cannot be routed to the next step until the recommendations are revised to be within budget.

  • The change will not apply to live forms.
