2084841 - Rating Sources - Copying a Template with Hard-Coded Goals - Compensation

Symptom

  • This article describes what the best practice is when modifying a rating source in cloned compensation template.

Environment

  • Compensation

Resolution

  • You cloned last year compensation form template and when you launch the forms you notice that few of the "Goal" columns are missing from the forms.

  • After cloning last year's template the compensation manager will need to update the rating sources to select the current year’s performance management form.  The administrator may be new and not know how the system was configured and may be using hard coded goals or other options not shown in the user interface.  They may select the “delete” button instead of the edit button and all the xml code related to the 2012 Performance Management form will be wiped and unrecoverable. This includes Hard-coded goals and the associated individual or business goal columns.

  •  If you select Delete then any elements that were relative to the existing template, such as hard coded goals, will also be deleted (which may not be your intent).

  • The solution is to go back to the original template and make a fresh copy. To change the rating source so not delete the existing one, but rather select “Edit” and select the new PM template. This approach will only update the template name and leave intact any hard coded goals in your compensation template that are also to come from your new PM template.
