2085473 - Incorrect results returned when SELECT performed for a negative tinyint value - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • The ASE datatype TINYINT should only permit values from 0 to 255 inclusive
  • INSERT of values outside that range will result in a failure with ASE error 247:

    Msg 247, Level 16, State 1: Line 1:
    Arithmetic overflow during implicit conversion of INT value '-33' to a TINYINT field.

  • SELECT of the negative of a TINYINT value should return error 247, but returns incorrect value without an error instead:
