Symptom

  • When doing a full database backup
  • The SAP ASE Backup Server may die
  • The following errors are reported in SAP ASE Backup Server errorlog:

A00: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 1, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.
D00: SYBMULTBUF ERROR: Emulator interprocess communication failed with error state = 9, error code=0, system message=Pipe I/O returned 0 bytes.

  •  This is observed in a HP-UX environment
