2112952 - AS Java cannot start due to UMEBackendConnection failure - hostname 'HOSTNAME' unknown

Symptom

The system cannot start properly and you see the following exception in the trace files:

  • dev_serverX:
    [Thr 93] ***LOG Q0I=> NiPConnect: IP_ADDRESS:PORT: connect (239: Connection refused) [/bas/741_REL/src/base/ni/nixxi.cpp 2931]
    [Thr 93] *** ERROR => NiPConnect: SiConnect failed for hdl 25/sock 31
        (SI_ECONN_REFUSE/239; I4; ST; IP_ADDRESS:PORT) [nixxi.cpp    2931]
    ...
    ERROR => Java node 'server0' terminated with exit code 2150

    Or for newer systems:

    ***LOG Q0I=> NiPGetHostByName: 'HOSTNAME' not found: getaddrinfo [/bas/745_REL/src/base/ni/niuxi.c 1759]



     
  • std_serverX:
    com.sap.engine.frame.ServiceException: Start of UME service failed. Check help topic "Start of UME Service Failed".
    Technical details: com.sap.conn.jco.JCoException:
    (102) JCO_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Initialization of destination UMEBackendConnection failed: Connect to SAP gateway failed
    Connection parameters: TYPE=A DEST=UMEBackendConnection ASHOST=HOSTNAME SYSNR=XX PCS=Y
