2116202 - Error 806, "Could not find virtual page for logical page", during rollback leads to suspect database with error 806 during recovery - ASE 15.7 SP 13x

Symptom

  • ASE error 806 during recovery or process rollback:

    server  Error: 806, Severity: 21, State: 1
    server  Could not find virtual page for logical page 4166563343 in database 'mydb'.

  • Error 806 followed by stack trace
  • Database marked suspect on recovery
  • Page signing (new feature introduced in ASE 15.7 SP130) is enabled
  • Other errors such as 6103 may be reported along with the 806 error and stack trace:

    server  Error: 21, Severity: 21, State: 1
    server  WARNING - Fatal Error 806 occurred at Oct 29 2014 12:42PM.  Please note the error and time, and contact a user with System Administrator (SA) authorization.
    server  Error: 806, Severity: 21, State: 1
    server  Could not find virtual page for logical page 4166563343 in database 'mydb'.
    server  Error while undoing log row in database 'mydb'.  Rid pageid = 0x0; row num = 0x0.
    server  WARNING: Pss 0x0x000000017a9b7cf0 found with open sdes. pspid 212, psuid 6, pcurdb 4, range entry 0, sdesp 0x0x0000000170d13d30, objid 1700000460.
    server  Error: 6103, Severity: 17, State: 1
    server  Unable to do cleanup for the killed process; received Msg 3300.
    server  WARNING: spid 212 with suid 6 and curdbid 4 has an active transaction in dbid 4 with xactid (23095870, 81).

  • 806 error can occurs during normal rollback processing
  • ASE continues processing
  • Subsequent database recovery fails with error 806 again
