2124125 - "Buffer too small for string or missing null byte error" when opening/saving Crystal Reports 2013 containing subreport in BI Launchpad

Symptom

  • The report contains at least one sub-report
  • The report is opens fine in the designer.
  • When trying to open a Crystral Reports file via BI Launchpad, the following error message is displayed: 

            "The viewer could not process an event. Buffer too small for string or missing null byte. [CRYSTAL REPORTS FILENAME].rpt [] ---- Error code:0 [CRWEB00000119]"

  • When trying to add the same report to the BI Platform via the BI Launchpad/CMC, the following error message is displayed:

           "The server with kind rptappserver returned an error result. Failed to copy the report file to the report object. Refreshing the report object properties might have failed. Failed to read   data from report file [CRYSTAL REPORTS FILENAME]. Reason: Buffer too small for string or missing null byte."

  • When you try to save the same report to the BI Platform via Crystal Reports Designer 2013 (CR2013), the following error message is displayed:

           "Internal Error: The Report Application Server failed"
