Symptom
You execute a partial or complete transfer posting of a fixed asset.
The transfer date is DD.MM.YYYY, but the start date of the depreciation should be earlier than DD.MM.YYYY.
If you do the transfer posting for day DD.MM.YYYY the sytem does not consider any depreciation date earlier than the transfer date even if you adjust the date in the fixed asset.
Reproducing the Issue
Create a new Fixed Asset:
- Open the Fixed Assets Work Center
- Navigate to the view Fixed Assets
- In the overview click on the button New - Fixed Asset
- Fill in the necessary fields and finish with Save
Execute the Transfer Posting:
- Open the Fixed Assets Work Center
- Go to Fixed Assets and select the respective Fixed Asset
- Click on Manual Posting - Complete Transfer of Individual Material/Partial Transfer of Individual Material
- Enter the Individual Material Number of the newly created Fixed Asset and fill in all other necesarry fields
- Finish with Post
Change the Start Date for the Depreciation to a date earlier than DD.MM.YYYY:
- Open the newly created Fixed Asset and click on View All
- Navigate to the tab Master Data - Asset Valuation
- Enter a Depreciation Start Date which is earlier than DD.MM.YYYY
- Save and check the calculation of the depreciation under the tab Values
- Choose the button Values - Explain Values
- You see that the depreciation has not been considered for the start date you entered*
Cause
The field Asset Valuation Date is needed to achieve a start of depreciation date which is earlier than the transfer date.
Resolution
Create a new Fixed Asset as described above.
Execute the Transfer Posting:
- Open the Fixed Assets Work Center
- Go to Fixed Assets and select the respective Fixed Asset
- Click on Manual Posting - Complete Transfer of Individual Material/Partial Transfer of Individual Material
- Choose Personalize - This Screen on the upper right hand corner of the screen
- Under Sections select Details
- Flag the box beside the Asset Valuation Date under the header Fields
- Finish with Save
- The field Asset Valuation Date is now availabe on the screen
- Enter the Individual Material Number of the newly created Fixed Asset
- Enter the required start date of depreciation in the field Asset Valuation Date and fill in all the necessary fields
- Finish with Post
If you check the calculation for the depreciation in the fixed asset you see, that the start date of depreciation equals the asset valuation date even if this is earlier than the date of the transfer posting.
*If the transfer posting was done in the first half of the month the deprecitation start date is in the same month.
*If the transfer posting was done in the second half of the month the depreciation start date is in the following month.
