2126199 - Insufficient heap memory message generated without a 712 error reported in the ASE error log - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • One or more process (SPID) hang.

  • ASE reports Error 712 to a client application (this error is typically not logged in the ASE errorlog.)

There is insufficient heap memory to allocate xxxxxx bytes. Please increase configuration parameter 'heap memory per user' or try again when there is less activity on the system.

  • The following message is printed in the ASE errorlog:

Server Could not obtain required number 'xxxxx' of resource of type 'Pss Heap Memory'. Since the process absolutely requires this resource, it is going to wait indefinitely till the resource becomes available. Please increase the configuration parameter 'heap memory per user'.

  • If memory is available, the following message is reported in the ASE errorlog:

An earlier indefinite wait for resource of type 'Pss Heap Memory' by this process is over as 'xxxxx' resources became available. Process is continuing further.
