2135016 - Upgrading user database to ASE 15.7 fails with error 2601 (duplicate key) on systypes - ASE

Symptom

  • Upgrading ASE to version 15.7 or higher
  • Using dump and load method
  • Returns error 2601:

    ...
    Database '<database>' appears to be at an older version '0' than the presentinstallation at version '15700'; ASE will assess it, and upgrade it as required.
    Database '<database>': beginning upgrade step [ID 2]: validate basic system type data
    Msg 2601, Level 14, State 1:
    Server '<server>', Line 2:
    Attempt to insert duplicate key row in object 'systypes' with unique index 'systypes'
  • Error 3461, 3451 3454 and 950 may also be reported

Msg 3461, Level 20, State 1:
Server '<server>', Line 2:
Database '<database>': upgrade could not install required upgrade item '2'. Please refer to previous error messages to determine the problem. Fix the problem, then try again.

Msg 3451, Level 20, State 1:
Server '<server>', Line 2:
Database '<database>': upgrade has failed for this database. Please refer to previous messages for the cause of the failure, correct the problem and try again.

Msg 3454, Level 20, State 1:
Server '<server>', Line 2:
Database '<database>': ASE could not completely upgrade this database; upgrade item 1501 could not be installed. ASE could not bring database '<database>' online.

Msg 950, Level 14, State 1:
Server '<server>', Line 2:
Database '<database>' is currently offline. Please wait and try your command again later.
