2139552 - Error 712, "insufficient heap memory" when running DBCC LISTOAM on a large table with high OAM page count - ASE

Symptom

  • Database has large tables with high object allocation map (OAM) page counts 
  • Getting error 712 when running DBCC LISTOAM on a large table to check the OAM page count:
    dbcc listoam(<dbid | dbname>, <objid | objname>, <indid | indname>)
    go

  Msg 712, Level 17, State 1:
  Server 'XXXXXX', Line 1:
  There is insufficient heap memory to allocate 65052912 bytes. Please increase configuration parameter 'heap memory per user' or try again when
  there is less activity on the system.DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact a user with System Administrator (SA) role.
