2145485 - Error “Could not connect to Microsoft Excel” when trying to open a dashboard in BI4.1 after upgrade of Excel

Symptom

  • Unable to open the dashboard (.XLF) in SAP Dashboards after upgrading from Excel 2007 to either Excel 2010 or Excel 2013
  • SAP Dashboards crashes when working with Excel 2010 and 2013 versions.

Environment

  • SAP Dashboards 4.1
  • Xcelsius 2008
  • MS Excel  2010, 2013

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Launch SAP Dashboards
  2. Open any .xlf

Cause

  • the excel option “Allow changes by more than one user …” is enabled

Resolution

  1. Open the .Xlf using Xcelsius 2008/SAP Dashboards where MS Excel 2007 is installed
  2. Go to Data > Export
  3. Save the excel file locally
  4. Open the file in MS Excel 2007
  5. Go to Review > Share Workbook > Editing tab
  6. Uncheck the option: 'Allow changes by more than one user at the same time. This also allows workbook merging.'

  7. Save the file

  8. Go back to SAP Dashboards

  9. Go to Data > Import to import the same updated file

 10. Save the XLF
