Symptom

  • User session terminates unexpectedly.
  • ASE shuts down unexpectedly.
  • A running sp_sysmon is in progress.  
  • ASE errorlog contains a message 'infected with signal 10' at the module ubofree():

Current process (hex#) infected with signal 10 (SIGBUS)
Address hex# (ubofree+0x220)

  • This messages can be seen in the errorlog:

       ulreleasespinlock: spinlock being freed improperly
                 
  • With a stacktrace containing the following functions:

ubofree
keipanic
ulreleasespinlock
ksfreesocket
soc_nclose
drop_connection
            
OR
                    
ubofree
ups_disable_hashstats_parallelism
cri_ptn_index
cri_physbuild

  • A terminated user process left a phantom spinlock behind:

Spinlock Kernel Spinlock Spinlock at address hex# owned by 123456789
