2155040 - Unable to connect to remote server using aseodbc server class - SAP IQ

Symptom

Error -656 can be reported when connecting from SAP IQ to SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise and using aseodbc server class:

  • Connection via ISQL

isql -UDBA -Psql -Siqdemo2
forward to myase {select @@version}
go
Msg 11206, Level 16, State 0:
SQL Anywhere Error -656: Unable to connect to server 'myase': [Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Database server not found

  • Connection via DBISQL

dbisql -c 'uid=DBA;pwd=sql;eng=iqdemo2' -nogui
forward to myase {select @@version};
Could not execute statement.
  Unable to connect to server 'myase': [Sybase][ODBC Driver][SQL Anywhere]Database server not found
  SQLCODE=-656, ODBC 3 State="HY000"
