2158292 - Error: "Depreciation method not valid" Occurs During Fixed Asset Migration

Symptom

  • An error occurs while trying to migrate fixed assets.
  • Upon simulating the import, the system displays the following error message: Depreciation method <description>not valid for valuation view <valuation view> set of books <set of books>.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Go to the Implementation Projects view.
  3. Select the relevant project and open the activity list.
  4. In the Integrate and Extend phase, open the activity Migration of Accounting Transaction Data.
  5. Click Migrate accounting transaction data using the migration tool.
  6. Select (or create) the migration unit for fixed asset migration and choose Execute Migration.
  7. Select the Fixed Assets migration object (upload the file if not done yet) and choose Process File.

After executing the Import Simulate, the following error is displayed in the logs: Depreciation method <description>not valid for valuation view <valuation view> set of books <set of books>

Cause

The depreciation method is not assigned to the accounting principle of the relevant set of books.

Resolution

You need to map the depreciation method to the accounting principles relevant for the company via below steps.

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Go to the Implementation Projects view.
  3. Select the relevant project and open the activity list.
  4. Open the Depreciation Methods fine-tune activity.
  5. Choose Edit depreciation methods.
  6. Select the concerned depreciation method and go to the Assignment to Accounting Principles tab.
  7. Add the concerned accounting principles and save the changes.

After that, the import simulation should be executed again in the migration tool.
