2165271 - Warning Message When Creating Report Navigation

Symptom

During the creation of a new Report Navigation you might encounter a warning message:

Decompounding f. characteristic to characteristic mapping will be ignored

You want to understand the meaning of this warning message.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Analytics work center
  2. Go to the Design Reports view
  3. Select any report and hit the button New > Report Navigation

Once you enter a value for specific characteristics in the Source Report Characteristics column you may get the above warning message.

Cause

The warning comes up because such characteristic is a compound characteristic: It has another characteristic attached with it.

In this case the warning is saying that the compounding will be ignored during report navigation. This means that ONLY values of the source characteristic selected by you will get passed when navigation happens but NOT the compounded characteristic.

Resolution

As this is just a warning message you can go ahead and create this navigation if this doesn't affect your use case.
