2165893 - Compensation - Reasons a form can have the Merit field pre-populated at launch

Symptom

A Compensation template can be manually configured to show a value to pre-populate the Merit (Merit Recommendation) field so when the form is created these values will be already included.

In some cases it is expected according to the configuration but in some others the configuration from a previous template can affect this field.

Environment

  • SuccessFactors Compensation
  • SuccessFactors Variable Pay

Reproducing the Issue

There are two possibilities:

  1. Merit Recommendation as default value in the Merit Guidelines.

In Admin Tools> Compensation Home> select Template> Plan Setup> Plan Details> Guidelines we can define the values that will be considered for the merit guidelines.

It is possible here to include a Default Value or to leave it as blank. If we decide to include a Default value, this value will populate automatically in a new created form.

NOTE: You can only leave columns LOW and HIGH as EDIT so they populate as blanks. All other columns need to be populated with a value. Below is an example:

2.Using a custom Import Key for the Merit field.

In Admin Tools> Compensation Home> select Template> Plan Setup> Design Worksheet we can define a custom Import Key for the Merit field that will create an additional column in the UDF where we can add the merit values.

IMPORTANT

This option has an inconvenient in case you copy your existing template (where you have added the Import Key) and use the copy for your next cycle.

If you decide not to import the merit anymore, removing the import key will have no effect in the new copied template if the values are still present on the system.

Resolution

For the first option, the solution to avoid the system from adding a default value is simple:

you will just need to remove the default values in your merit guidelines (Admin Tools> Compensation Home> selecting Template> Plan Setup> Plan Details> Guidelines)

For the second option, you will need to do an employee import adding the custom column for merit and all the values as blank, so the values in the system will be overwritten to 0 and the merit field will not be pre-populated anymore. Also, if you want to use imported merit simultaneously with calculated merit you must not copy the template using the Import Key but to create a new one.
