2167731 - Dump Database fails with Backup Server Error Message 4.7.2.1: Device already in use - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Cron job runs SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) backups once per week.

  • ASE Backup fails with the following error messages in the log:

Error: dump of database failed.
Message from Backup Server: Backup Server session id is: 29. Use this value when executing the 'sp_volchanged' system stored procedure after fulfilling any volume change request from the Backup Server.
Backup Server: 4.41.1.1: Creating new disk file /var/opt/sybase/sybase/dbdumps/sybdump.
Backup Server: 4.7.2.1: Device /var/opt/sybase/sybase/dbdumps/sybdump already in use. Msg 8009, Level 16, State 1: Server 'masterdataservice', Line 1: Error encountered by Backup Server.
Please refer to Backup Server messages for details. Failed to dump Adaptive Server masterdataservice Error: Sun Aug 10 03:00:40 CST 2014 /syb/backup/syb_dbdump :
Error: Adaptive Server backup failed! Removing old log files (saving files 30 days old) ... done.
