Symptom
On SAP ASE systems running ASE 16.0 SP02 PL04 and below:
- A new connection to the SAP ASE database cannot be established via the isql utility.
- For SAP applications, R3trans -d fails with error "no connect possible".
- Error 706 and/or "infected with signal 11" errors are reported continually in the ASE errorlog file:
- Error: 706, Severity: 20, State: 3
Process 978 tried to remove PROC_HDR 0x4e495a800 that it does not hold in Pss.
- Current process (0x2d3106c7) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address 0x0x0000000000e29d85 (mem_pageallocate+0xd5), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x0xffffffffffffffff)
- A failed process (spid) attempted to create a stored procedure as:
CREATE PROC MYP AS SELECT TOP 1 * FROM "MYTBL" WHERE...
- The ASE stack trace following Error 706 may includes modules:

proc__deallocmem
procrm
ups_deadlock_getnext
stio_read_column
st_readstatistics
st_getstats
qry_init_stats
st_readallstats
or possibly

init_before_msg
- The ASE stack trace following the "infected with signal 11' error includes modules:

On SAP ASE systems running ASE 16.0 SP02 PL05 and above:
- The system access is not affected; new processes are able to connect to the SAP ASE database just fine; there are no runtime problems.
- However, the ASE errorlog continues to report Error 706 as described above.
