2176606 - The type "TSTRINGS" is unknown after upgrade using Software Update Manager (SUM)

Symptom

Customer has used SAP standard DDIC objects delivered with SL tools (e.g. Table Type TSTRINGS) in customer codes.
After the upgrade using Software Update Manager(SUM), the custom codes now throw a SYNTAX_ERROR dump (example shown below:)

Syntax error in program "<CUSTOM CODE>=CP".

What happened?
Error in the ABAP Application Program

The current ABAP program "/IWBEP/CL_MGW_RT_DEF_BADI=====CP" had to be
terminated because it has come across a statement that unfortunately cannot be executed.
In include "<CUSTOM CODE>===========CU ", in line 127 of program
"<CUSTOM CODE>=CP ", the following syntax errors have occurred:

The type "TSTRINGS" is unknown, but there is a type with the similar name "STRING". "STRING".
