2176920 - Depreciation Value is Incorrect in Legacy System After Migration of Fixed Assets

Symptom

After the migration of fixed assets, it was discovered that the depreciation value of one of the fixed assets in the legacy system was incorrect.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Fixed Asset work center.
  2. Go to the Fixed Assets view.
  3. Select the Fixed Asset XYZ (XYZ represents the ID of the Fixed Asset).
  4. Press Edit, and then select Values from the dropdown list.

It can be observed that for Set of Books ABC (ABC represents the Set of Books ID) the value is XXX (XXX represents the value of the given Set of Books).

Cause

As the values were incorrect in the legacy system, the same incorrect values were entered in the migration file and subsequently migrated to SAP Business ByDesign.

Resolution

To correct the values of Fixed Asset XYZ in SAP Business ByDesign, the write-up method can be used.

Below are the steps for write-up method:

  1. Go to the Fixed Asset work center.
  2. Select the Fixed Asset XYZ.
  3. Press Edit, and then select Values from the dropdown list.
  4. Select the Set of Books ABC.
  5. Press Manual Posting, and then select Write-Up from the dropdown list.
  6. Select the Depreciation type.
  7. Select the Valuation view.
  8. Specify the concerned amount.
A write-up acts as a reverse depreciation. The resulting amount is visible in the Journal tab of the Values view. Subsequently, the correct depreciation amount can be posted.

If the migration has been closed, the migration can be reopened and reversed from the Migration tab. Subsequently, a new legacy fixed asset can be created either via the migration template or from the Fixed Assets work center. When creating the asset, the correct values can be maintained in the Migration tab, resulting in the correct depreciation being posted for the respective fixed asset.
